Pelvic floor and reformer Pilates: rebuilding gently
The pelvic floor does a quiet, enormous job, and when it is not working as it should, the effects reach into everyday life: leaks when you laugh or run, a feeling of heaviness, or a core that just does not feel connected. Reformer Pilates is one of the gentlest, most effective ways to rebuild that support.
If you have symptoms like leaking, heaviness or pain, it is worth seeing your GP or a specialist women's health physiotherapist. Pilates works beautifully alongside that care.
It is more than just squeezing
A healthy pelvic floor is not only about strength, it is about coordination: knowing how to engage and, just as importantly, how to fully release, in time with your breath and your deep core. Reformer Pilates trains exactly that connection, in supported positions, with your instructor guiding you the whole way.
Why the reformer helps
- Breath and timing. Spring resistance gives you something to work with, so you learn to coordinate the pelvic floor with movement and breath, rather than holding your breath and clenching.
- Deep core teamwork. The pelvic floor works as part of a team with the deep abdominals and diaphragm; the reformer trains the whole system together.
- Supported and safe. Positions are supported and adaptable, so you build control without strain, at a pace that suits you.
How we do it
In our small classes, and starting with a one-to-one introductory session, your instructor can tailor this work discreetly and precisely. If it is a focus for you, our pelvic floor Pilates page explains more, and it weaves naturally into our reformer classes too.
A stronger foundation
Your pelvic floor is the foundation everything else is built on. Come and rebuild it gently, at your own pace, and feel the difference a connected core can make.
