What to expect from reformer Pilates: your first weeks, and beyond
One of the questions we're asked most is a fair one: what will this actually do for me, and how soon? Everyone's different, but here's an honest picture of how reformer Pilates tends to change your body — and how you'll progress with us.
Weeks 1–4: it starts on the inside
The first changes are ones you feel more than see. Within a few weeks most people notice they feel stronger and steadier, with better balance and improved posture — you simply stand a little taller. You'll also start to learn the movements and become far more aware of how your body moves, which is the foundation for everything that follows.
Weeks 8–12: it starts to show
With consistent practice — around two to three sessions a week is the sweet spot — this is when the visible changes arrive: more defined tone through your core, arms and legs, and noticeably better alignment. Reformer Pilates doesn't bulk you up with heavy muscle; it builds long, lean strength and a body that moves with ease.
How you'll progress with us
Every journey begins with a one-to-one introductory session, so we can see how you move and start you in the right place. From there you'll move into our small group classes and progress through the levels as your strength and control grow — guided every step by your instructor, and never rushed. With a maximum of four people per class, the work is always pitched to challenge you appropriately, whatever your stage.
A word on weight
A class burns meaningful energy (roughly 300–500 calories), but if fat loss is a goal, pair your sessions with good nutrition — movement and diet work best together. In truth, the changes our members treasure most aren't on the scales; they're in how strong, tall and capable they feel.
"If you want to get strong and move with more ease, it's unlike any other form of exercise… I left feeling 10cms taller." — Susie Burgess
"I've been attending for two years now, and it's truly been transformative." — Bethany Vipond
